24 Jan 2018 - Emerging from the Fog (CKB)
Still barking, but no one has thrown up for 24 hours.
Bonus.
We're celebrating by attempting to have a 'normal' day.
Everyone got cleaned up this morning and Aaron went to the library, while the boys and I went to the Old City. Damascus Gate is literally a 10 minute walk down the street, the guys have never been, and I'm hopelessly in love with old city suqs. We spent a couple hours just wandering, which is pretty remarkable when you think about it. The Brody boys are not natural wanderers...unless they're procrastinating. They want to know where we're going, why, how long it will take to get there, if there are kids, sweets, fire, or ammunition involved, and when we're leaving. So the fact that there were no complaints about sore feet or directionally challenged mothers was nothing short of a miracle. We checked out every sweet shop, every animal carcass, and every toy gun, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of the Old City. We wandered into the Western Wall and then away from it and ended with a little bit of grocery shopping on the way home.

We picked up some sesame bread on the way (they're shaped sort of like the circus in Rome) that come with these beautiful, tortellini-shaped paper packages with za'atar salt inside. Delish. The boys figured out that when you stick your fingers into the bread, you can sort of hollow it out enough to insert a hot dog. Voila. Palestinian hot dog fi bun.
Rounded out the day with an Albright Fellow Lecture on Dead Sea scrolls.
